This is an outstanding capture of this insect.
The point of view used let us appreciate with plenty of details this sharpen and well exposed insect.
Deep of field works really great in this photo, the background tones are in perfect harmony with the subject.
Ilumination couldnt be better.
Congratulations for this first post, a warm welcome to TN and happy holidays,

An excellent macro.
Very good composition with great lighting and nice detail.
A superb dark background.
Very nice indeed.
welcome to TN
this is an amazing presentation and composition introducing this grasshopper very clearly and with high sharpness. The background is very appropriate to show the outlines and colours of the insect. A slight background noise can be eliminated easily (see workshop) to achieve the last 1% to make the picture 100% perfect. It's a superb picture which I will select for my favourite list.
Best wishes, Peter

Interesting pic; good photography.
I was curious what the workshop should give ('cause pic is good)...and a bit to my surprise it was an interesting one;-)

Very nice macro Clint.
Color, light, detail, DOF, and sharpness are excellent. I like the background that highlights or isolates the beautiful hopper nicely as well. I think Peter's NR WS has improved the image.
Merry Christmas & welcome to TN!

Welcome to TN and what a fabulous shot for your first post. Very nice composition, POV and a great pose too, nice sharp details, the colours and lighting are beautiful with a superb BG. Sorry the Lizard lost its lunch but it did give you a great shot.

Hi Clint, welcome to TN. This is a very nice first post. Very odd to find a locust in these parts! Lovely composition and super lighting. My only nit would be that I think you have oversharpened a little and that's probably the cause of the noise that Peter points out.
Well done, seasons greetings

Welcome to TN Clint... and with excellent first presentation.
Background: **** (exists a very light bottom noise)
Framing: **** (lightly centered)
Note: ** (lack of the values of the image and camera model)

Wonderful species, looks quite uncommon! You should be right about the lizard owner! But i can say that this grasshopper can be the most beautiful one and most beautiful shot of a grasshopper i've ever seen!

Welcome to TN. Superb shot of this young grasshopper, excellent sharpness and focus and terrific colours against the dark background. Most of all I like the lighting and the composition I think. Whayt luck to find such beauties in the fog in South-east England! :-)
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

First of all - Welcome to TN, which is a great site for nature photographers...
Second - this is a magnificent contribution, excellent exposition, DOF and composition. Very good postprocessing. Indeed that must be some kind of an exotic locust. I don't recall anything like that could be native to UK.
All the best greetings,

I don't know why this critter escaped my attention before, but now it's full glory hits me. I am embarrassed to tell you that I as a biologist failed to find out about the species. Photographers of your caliber should add info on the technical aspect of the shot (kind of lighting, how to keep the bugger in place etc. ). We want to peek over your shoulders, Clint. Thanks for sharing,

Exceptionally beautiful first post on the TN, Clint.
Welcome, and we look forward to many more such lovely pictures.
The image is perfect in terms of point of view, sharp focus, colours and overall composition.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
PS: My net connectivity went for a toss on the Chrismas Day, Clint. It was restored just today, so here I am, a bit guilty about the delay in getting back with my points. Hope you will forgive me for the lapse.
Happy New Year!
