Well i'm back from my small trip with a bitter taste in my mouth...it rained a lot and i couldn't find exactly what i was lookinf for and i didn't manage to take pictures the way i wanted.
However, in the small breaks that the clouds took, i made some captures of some very interesting animals and plants. As is the case of this giant mosquito (actually a crane fly - to be perfectly correct), which measured about 4-5 cm...i sure wouldn't want this species to be blood sucking :)

I'm affraid i don't know exactly the name of the species, only the order - Tipulidae - but i'm going to go to the University on monday and look it up and i'll update the note then.
??? - couldn'y find anything in the books...so if anyone has an idea of the ID...plase :)

PP: Crop, sharpen, modified hue/saturation.

Hi Horia. This crane fly looks big. It is always difficult to get a good pose on this ones, it is always full of legs everywhere :) but you had a great opportunity and managed great! Lovely BG showing the enviroment too. TFS.

Hello Horia!
Interesting huge insect you got here. It surely looks scary if it were to bite you. Even more impressive, though, is the fact that you took it handheld. Doesn't matter the IS, 1/5s is still a painfully long shutter speed for a macro shot. Congratulations,

Hello Horia,
Very good macro work, DOF spot on and great details in the insect!
Superb clarity in colours, and I appreciate the point of view here...

Nicely captured Horia,
The details are nice, clear and sharp.
Good colours, lighting and exposure. DOF is spot on and the POV is good.
Well composed and nicely framed.
Thanks for posting, enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Hi Horia,
Either mosquito or fly, this is a monster. Its wings seem to small when compare to its size. Nicely composed and pov. TFS

Hello Hoira!
Really great shot and different work here. pov and bg superb! Wonderful macro! exceptional one! Very different from your reptiles :-) btw this is a crane fly and i'm agree with Felipe! These are really hard subjects with that legs :-)

Excellent shot Horia,
Very good exposure and use of ambient light.
Well framed, with good sharpness, detail, BG, and natural color. Great DOF and plane of focus as well.

wow, amazing macro-shot, horia! :-)
excellent composition and pov from the side showing the long legs in perfect sharpness against a beautiful natural blurred bg.
i guess you do not have to be afraid, it looks like a crane fly,
and they do not suck blood.
well done & take care, thorsten.

Hi Horia
It's a really 3D-image. Great DOF and POV. Exclusive sharpness and details of insect. Superb close-up. My congratulations.

Hello Horia,
Lovely shot! Wow, you've managed to put all these legs in a frame ;-) I always find it difficult to do.
Great details, lovely POV and a superb BG.
Great job!

hi horia
bonne macro,l'insecte a de bons details et le BG est bien flou ce qui detache bien le sujet.

It's like a dinosaur moskito!
But, were an instar or pre-imago state of the development i think, 'cos his wings arn't yet developed.

Good picture, focusing that would be difficult, because of teh fear to be suking by him!!!!! ahhhhh!!! ;D
