I guess a wooden heart is better than a heart of stone. By the detail you have captured in this photo I would say this tree had lived a long and prosperous life. Good lighting and depth,

This wooden heart is literally at the core of nature. We tend so much to focus on animals, insects, and flowers and in the process we maybe forget that without trees very little else of nature would/could exist.
I like your composition and in its simplicity it is still telling us so much about this tree and nature as a whole. What takes nature years to form - man can cut down in a couple of minutes. The colours are nice and natural, the DOF is spot-on with sharp details, and the exposure was well handled.
