|[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note|
|I guess everybody has enough beetle shots I posted several days in a row :-) So, today we are moving to memories from the last summer. As I wrote before I spent some time doing a fieldwork in Romania. At the end of the trip I went also to visit some nature places on the Bulgaria nothern coasts. Here you can see one of them, which is not only a nature but also a great historical and archeological site:|
The cape stretches deep into the sea and consists of 70m high limestone rocks with many surf-formed caves and underwater rocks. Inaccessibility of the place was the main reason for the construction of an ancient fortress in Vth centruy BC, named Tirisis, Tetrasiada, Akre and then Kaliakra. It means "a beautiful cape", due to the prominent colours. The fortress was successively used by Tracians, Romans, Byzantines and Bulgarians. According to legends, the fortress was guarding the treasuries of Lyzimah, successor of Alexander the Great. Today there are quite many remains of those ancient settlements, which can be seen exhibited in a small museum. One can also read there a legend telling the story of 40 Bulgarian maidens who chose to jump from the high cape into the sea but not to be captured by the Turks (sorry my Turkish friends, it's just a history gone long ago :-)).
The Kaliakra cape was declared a protected area in 1941. The protected area has since been expanded already three times and currently reaches some 690 ha. It is one of the few places where the rare species of monk seals, found only in the northern part of the Bulgarian coast, are to be seen. The other reasons for protection are three species of dolphins visiting the shores (common dolphin, harbour porpoise, bottle-nosed dolphin) and a rich bird-life, including: Sturnus roseus, Burhinus oedicnemus, Melanocorypha calandra, Calandrella brachydactyla, Calandrella rufescens and Puffinus mauretanicus.

Very interesting coastline! I like the composition with the bending shoreline... Great colours and details
Looks nice and looks familiar. It resembles somehow parts of the Romanian seashore in Dobrogea.

Friday Night Party night.
Only time to see this post deserves a big smiley.
TFS. Have a great weekend.
J'aime beaucoup la perspective de cette photo, cette pointe qui part vers la gauche avec ce léger arrondi. Les couleurs sont belles et lumineuses.
