Hi Friends, I have tried to get a good in-flight shot of the fast flying insect for years but no success.
When it hoovering over a flower it's possible to get a decent shot.

Hemaris fuciformis, known as the broad-bordered bee hawk-moth, is a moth of the family Sphingidae. It is found in North Africa, Europe (except Northern Scandinavia) and Central and Eastern Asia.
The wingspan is 38–48 millimetres (1.5–1.9 in). The moth flies from April to September depending on the location.
The larvae feed on honeysuckle and Galium species.

Hello Gert,
It's a long time ago That I saw your last posting. Welcome back. And with a wonderful macro. Amazing sharp detailed hawk-moth in very beautiful colors and taken from the best POV. Excellent quality!

Hi Gert,
Welcome back, neighbour. :-) It's always good to see your posts. Very interesting image, the insect is tack sharp, the background is noise free and the lights are gorgeous. The only issue with the pic (in my opinion, of course), the out of focus flower in the foreground, this should have been cropped (at least partially). Otherwise a stunning shot.
Kind regards from Ireland, László

Hello Gert,
excellent capture..regards.

Hi Gert,
Tack sharp macro of the hawk-moth. I have seen these a few times in this part of the world, but have not had a camera in hand. Shutter speed of 1/1250 was able to freeze all but the wings.

Hi Gert
Beautiful.Very sharp with lovely BG. Thanks a for sharing.

hallo Gert
so beautiful and so good sharpness
i like the details and the beautiful colours
thanks gr lou

When the ace photographers of the glorious era of TN return here occasionally with their images, I feel elated, Gert.
It is extremely difficult to capture a Hawk Moth in its hovering stance; I too have tried it several times.
In this capture, you have obtained exceptional focus and sharpness even though the whirring wings are a blur.
Thanks for the link to the larger image. The small size on TN sucks.

Hello Gert,
What a fine looking specimen of what we in the US would normally call a hummingbird moth. I love the contrasting black, white, ruby red and olive green colors. The detail is exceptional and the exposure is perfect. The clean blurred background is a real bonus to an already lovely shot. Awesome capture!!

Bonjour Gert,

Amaizing details. Great BG. Love it. TFS

Ciao Gert, great macro of fantastic hawk moth on beautiful flower, wonderful natural colors, fine details and splendid sharpness, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio

Dear Gert,
very exciting, charming encounter with this speedy day-active little hawkmoth, taken from a perfect low side-frontal point of view, perfectly focussed with a sufficiently short depth of field that allows a sharp view of exactly the main the parts of interest while blurring the vegetation around into a perfectly clean distant background, Wonderful! Thank you!
With best regards,
