[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Although I am supposed to be spending all my spare time finding a new place to live, I could not help but share this image of Water Rail (Rallus aquatics). This bird is fairly common but is very elusive. Rarely emerging from the vegetation it hides in. I was very lucky on Sunday, when not one but two of these pretty birds were visible in a nature reserve near Christchurch, Dorset.

Although I could not get very close because of the marshy, flooded ground they were on, I managed a few handheld shots I was able to crop down.

Kind Regards

Hello Vinny,
Water Rails are very secretive and elusive birds and after several years of trying I have not managed to take a photograph of one yet, even though i have seen them dart across open spaces in the reed beds.
So I congratulate you on this shot taken from a nice frontal POV when its head was turned to meet the camera. Even though it might be a little oversharpened, the lighting and contrast with the reedy BG is great and set in a nice composition.
Thanks and I hope you find your dream home!

Mmm i'm supposed to finding somewhere to live too - not much around in the bournemouth area at the moment though...the new forest would be nice!
anyway, nice to see a shot from Stanpit here! Good use of the reflection and nicely cropped, you still retained more than enuogh detail to get a decent quality shot. I like the brightness in the light, could do with some of that today!
