Lights go down
It's dark
The jungle is your head
Can't rule your heart
I'm feeling so much stronger
Than I thought
Your eyes are wide
And though your soul
it can't be bought
your mind can wander

Hello, Hello
I'm at a place called vertigo (¿Dónde está?)
It's everything I wish I didn't know
Except you give me something I can feel

Last friday (the 15th) I attended the U2 Concert in the Amsterdam Arena (Vertigo tour 2005) and it was brilliant! U2 is the best live act on the planet!! :) If you can get tickets for their show: buy the tickets and go see them! This bird is singing one of their songs: Vertigo.
Scarlet Ibis (Eudocimus ruber):

Physical description: Body length 22 to 24 inches (56 to 61 centimeters) Color is bright red in both sexes, with a long neck, long curved probing bill, black tipped feathers, and perching feet that are only slightly webbed.

The Scarlet Ibis is one of the most striking sights in the world of birds, flying, feeding and nesting in large groups. Some birds, especially those in the tropics, stay in the same general area throughout life. The Scarlet Ibis is classified with other birds of tropical America who have few or no close relatives except in other tropical regions.

pecial anatomical, physiological or behavioral adaptations: The uniformly bright-red plumage of the Scarlet Ibis intensifies as the bird grows older. As with flamingos, the brilliant red color of the bird comes from pigments in the bodies of crustaceans on which it feeds. The long curved beak is used to probe for food in mud and shallow water, guided mostly by touch. It flies strongly with its neck extended, almost as if it were gliding. Like other birds, Scarlet Ibis fights with their beak, legs, and wings against enemies in order to protect themselves and their offspring.

This is the same ibis as I posted HERE, only seconds later.

Hi Pieter, that bird may well be singing one of U2 songs then again maybe he's yawning because I'm one of the few in Ireland who don't like the sound of that band, then again Iv never seen or heard them live ;) As for your post, well its stunning. The colour of this bird is a knockout, detail is equally impressive. You captured a great pose also. Very nice work.

Hahaha, Pieter. You are so funny! I don't know how you manage to capture the funniest poses of your subjects. This one is brilliant, with the beak wide open and the cheek all puffed up. I would rather think that he is belting out some aria by Andrea Bocelli. In any case, the shot is perfect in all respects. Congratulations and TFS. : )

Pieter, I'm a U2 fan too. I do enjoy the old ones, although I like some of the new ones too.

Great shot with excellent colors and contrast. The eye of the bird seems a little strange to me.

I also like composition and sharpness.

An excellent job.

Hi Pieter!
Great catch with great story! Picture is superb, full of action and colours. Talking about U2 - I also love this band, especially older songs from "The Joshua Tree". They're in Poland not long ago and Polish fans made great show for theirs idols - during "New Year's Day" all people on stadium rose their hands with red or white pieces of paper and created huge Polish flag. It looks like this Ibis must have been at the U2 concert too, his eyes are a bit blank and he can't shut his mouth Pieter! What a funny pose! Good colours and d etails though. Well done.

Hello Pieter

Now here is my 15 seconds of fame.... My work colleague is from England and her Uncle is the Spiritual Advisor for U2. She and her husband have just returned from a month back home and were taken to the U2 concert and got the real good treatment.. Howz That!

Great Pieter, awesome plumage colour. Good detail and sharpness. Singing for it's supper! Nice one! Thanks.

Hello Pieter, Very striking colors with great impact. I think I like this take better then "Fur Elize" with the wide open beak adding more interest..Very good sharpness & details, Great capture!
P.S. By the way, I'm a fan of U2 and have their work on CD..

I have a thing about all what is Irish including U2 ;-)
Great shot Pieter!
Beuatiful colours, perfect POV and composition, lovely model [but I still prefer Bono ;-) ]

Well, that bush is in the way, of course, but it's still a good photo. What a weird look when the bird is yawning (or whatever it is doing). Lovely colours and a good simple frame.

Beautiful capture, Pieter.
Excellent composition and details. The lighting is great and the focus is right on. Excellent work.

Beautiful picture, Pieter.
The colours are striking. Well dcomposed and very good details.
Excellent work.

Hi Pieter,

Firstly thanks for your help with the USM -- It really helped. Secondly what amazing colors and excellent DOF !!!

Cheers, ZaKiwi

Hello Pieter, the colour of the ibis is amazing as is the sharpness of the image, not so sure about the blurred green leaves of the forground, there is a possible crop to the left of the vertical leaves and above the horizontal ones to leave us with the birds head and shoulders , I am sure the image is good enough to with-stand being seen at an enlarged size.
still a good capture TFS Robert

Points tomorrow

Brilliant capture Pieter,
This is so sharp and nicely exposed. The colour of the Ibis is superb. The DOF and BG are spot on. Well composed.
U2 are an awesome band to see live, thanks for posting

Hello Pieter,

A truly wonderful image, bringing to mind an "Edward Scissorhand" type of look.

Excellent color, detail, pose, BG and lighting in this well composed capture.

Hello Pieter,
it is an excellent capture of this wonderful bird...
great light and a focus...
very well done...

Pieter, this is very nice. I like very much your picture. If you have enough quality, I would also be nice to crop a close up of the odd potrait filling the frame :)
A great work, thanks very much for posting.
PD: About your last critic, you have very good eye for the noise, in fact there was a lot everywhere and I difussed, but not enough. Thanks for pointing out, I find it very useful. Regards, Felipe.

What a shot!!!! beautiful bird, and cute composition!!!! The detail is exquisite!

Excellent! I love the way you've framed him with the foliage. Beautiful colours and excellent detail. I'm guessing this was taken through wire as there is a kind of criss-cross pattern in the background. A minor nit though, this is a beautiful shot.

LOL, I didn't know a scarlet ibis could sing U2! This is an amazing photo although the bird looks strange with that second lid down, it almost looks blind. My cats do that sometimes and freak me out!

Your DOF, sharpness and color are all spot on. I'm off to Italy in a week....
