[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Earlier today, I spent my whole day trying to shoot some toucans.

They're very difficult to capture, not only because they don't let anyone get close, but also because they tend to be among leafy branches. The adventure was worthwhile. I didn't get an excellent shot, but I could get three rather good images. This is one of them.

When I took it, it was late in the afternoon. I could have used ISO 400 (I used 200), so that a higher speed could have been used, but I didn't want a noisy photo (believe me: I get noisy images when I use ISO 400 with my 20D). The image stabilizer was on. No tripod.

The beak of the bird may seem heavy, but its structure is indeed a light one, which makes easy for the bird to fly.

It feeds on insects, lizards, eggs, other birds' offsprings and fruits.

The species can be found in Brazil and Argentina.

I owe these informations to Alexandre Zulu and Gerhard Theron, two members of this website who also took pictures of this species. In other to check their shots, please refer to www.treknature.com/gallery/South_America/Brazil/photo6715.htm and www.treknature.com/gallery/Africa/South_Africa/photo6048.htm .

Such a colourful bird, and lucky to capture this rareity with your camera. Hopefully you didn't have to climb up any trees to get this shot. Well done. Janice

This Toucan is impressive with its huge beak. I like the composition with trees. I also appreciate the complementary note... Congratulations Livio and thanks for sharing.

it is differcult Livio, I can see it in the shot,
but you did it, it is not your best one but you captured a toucan in wild, and that is not easy, my compliments for this good trying.

Hi Livio,

You caught this one very good. This bird is best in real nature. I know how hard it is to shoot these fellows. During my stay in Mexico I also tried these guy's. (without a lot of success)

Hello Livio, trés beau tableau plein de couleurs qui me fait penser aux peintures de Douanier Rousseau!! Mes félicitations, Didier.

Great shot Livio,
Very different proposition to get one of these in the wild..
It's nice to see your posting again :)

Hello Livio,
Very nice capture.I saw this birds never in wild.
Sometimes i lived noise problems with 20D,especially at sunset captures, and underexposed captures.

Nice shot Livio, this has a very nice POV for this image, what a great find. I plan to spend more time photographing these birds while I'm down in South America. That's of course if I can find them. (lol) :)

Hi Livio

This guy looks all out of proportion. His bill is way too big for his body. Good shot of this one. We usually see the head and bill close up and don't get to see the entire body. Thanks.

Bonjour Livio
C'est une excellente composition avec ce beau toucan dans cette belle nature! La présentation très jolie avec de belles couleurs, ainsi que les détails. Merci pour le partage .
Au revoir et Bravo passe un bon week end ....JP
