Brownstriped Litter Fly (Sapromyza neozelandica)

Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Arthropoda
Class: Hexapoda
Order: Diptera
Family: Lauxaniidae
Scientific name: Sapromyza neozelandica
Common name: Brownstriped litter fly

There are thought to be around 15 species of these tiny native flies in New Zealand. Their maggots live in leaf litter & feed on molds and fungi.

I took this on my Lumix FZ100 with a Raynox DCR 150 macro teleconverter. The grass was swaying in the wind, so I used my cable shutter release to trigger the shot at the second it stopped.

Hope you like it.

Hello Steve,
I must say this is an awesome macro, filled with superb detail and beautiful natural colors. Perfect exposure and attractive clean BG. Well done!!

Fantastic macro Steve! The composition, the BG, the colours and the sharpness are excellent!

Well ...wonderful capture Steve...almost flawless ! The depth of field looks great ...just on the edge. Brilliant! How pity that the fly on top is not entirely covered in focus. Fortunately Photoshop is coming to the rescue here. Please check my Workshop and see what I have done. Have a great day Steve.

Hello Steve,
It's tough to have those small cirtters completely in focus, isn't it ? The neutral BG is fantastic, a beautiful green, and the lighting couldn't be improved.

Hello Steve
Amazing macro! Impressive sharpness, wonderful colors, lighting and contrast.
Thank You
Best regards

i have the expensif camera and lens (Canon 5D + mpe-65 + 100mm macro) and i can't get close to that result.
Amazing what you can do whit a simple Lumix FZ100.
Anyway, it's a wonderful image. great job.

Great stuff Steve, using a Hybrid Super Zoom, it's a great result you got here. Since a while I use a hyprid too (SX40HS), not for macro, not yet but I'm working on it just got some macro filters for it not the Raynox, will see if its worth. Keep it going and many greatings to Karamea, the last resort:)

Cheers, Thorsten
