[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
A young spotted shag - Phalacrocorax punctata - trying to effect a landing on nesting sites on a cliff face on the Otago Peninsula at Taiaroa Head. The wind was very strong and swirling, difficult to hold the camera and even more difficult for the birds. I followed this bird as it made several abortive attempts to get into the cliff face, but it eventually made it - somewhat inelegeantly. Spotted shags, parekareka to the Maori, are one of a number of cormorant species found in New Zealand and are quite common.
