[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The quality of this photo is poor because it was taken under red light at a captive breeding centre. The Bilby is strictly nocturnal hence the dull red light and the need to covert to monochrome.
The Greater Bilby (Macrotis lagotis) is one of Australia's most endangered marsupials. The lesser bilby became extinct about 60 years ago. Thye are omnivores and don't need water. The are excellent burrowers and build extensive tunnel networks. They are extremely cute with their long ears.
The captive bred bilbies are being released into secure sanctuary areas which have been cleared of foxes, wild dogs and feral cats.

Hello Ian,
Very rare species! Nice to see it. Thanks for your NOTE. I just Google it and came to know it doesn't need to take drink 😳.
Yes, quality isn't good (you mentioned). Personally, I don't like photograph from captivity, although your picture isn't showing. So again thanks for your honesty. Digital nose engulfed the whole image due to poor light condition.
But, overall a rare species.
Thanks for showing us,
