The sandstone environments of the greater Sydney area have a rich flora with over 2,000 species recorded. From late autumn to early summer an enormous variety of colourful flowers can be found in profusion through native forests, woodlands and heaths. So I thought I’d show you a few of the more colourful delights that can be found within 100km of central Sydney.
This is the Native Fuchsia (Epacris longifolia), but is no relative of th efuchias of the northern hemisphere. An often-straggly shrub that can grow to 1.5m tall, it is usually found in damper areas of sheltered woodlands and forests. It flowers from May to September, its brilliant red and white flowers strongly contrasting against the bright green of ferns that are often found in the same area.
This one was taken at Carrington Falls on the southern Tablelands.

Excellent capture and well done on the composition and details.
Just wondering, do you have Hummers? they love these kinds of flowers. They look similar to our trumpet flowers that Humming birds drink from.
