This is an emu, living in a small animal sanctuary on the sunshine coast. Even if the animals are fenced, one can be pretty close, specially if you have food with you!

Hi Jerome, welcome to TN. A great shot to open with. My only experience of Emus are of watching Rod Hull on TV ;-). Great capture, those eyes are amazing.

Eyes are very expressive and the colors are very good, as well as the background. Your depth of field is a too short, though, to get the beak in focus. If your camera has manual settings, disable the auto mode, go on aperture priority and select the highest f/ value. In this case, for example, f/8 would still have given enough speed to shoot without movement blurr. Welcome to TN. Awaiting your next shots.

From the thumbnail I thought this was an ostrich. I love the eye and the expression on the face, not that I think it would change at any time.
