[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Another Nymphalidae butterfly from my trip to Townsville. This one is a Chocolate Argus (Junonia hedonia), which also known as the Chocolate Solider in Asia.
Like my previous post this one is also is found in coastal swamps and along slow moving waterways through the north and the east coast of Australia down to Brisbane.
Elsewhere it is found in Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia, New Guinea and Solomon Islands.
This species has a wingspan of 50mm and is found throughout the year, being most abundant at the end of the wet season (February-April). They fly close to the ground and donít travel too far from their preferred shady habitat.
This one was captured along the Ross River.

Very nicely presented, Chris. Outstanding detail and clarity, vivid color, good exposure. The point of view shows off the argus well and I like the way its setting on the branch emphasizes its own color. Well done!

Hello Chris,
Not a bit like our 'argus', in fact very different but most impressive. Excellent capture showing its beautiful wing markings and colours. Nice background too from which it stands out very nicely. Very beautiful!
TFS and regards, Ulla
