[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
There are three flycatcher species in the tropical woodlands of northern Australia that are superficially similar in plumage; Leaden, Satin and Broad-billed Flycatcher. To make matters worse the female Leaden and Satin Flycatcher look like the male Broad-billed Flycatcher. Habitat preference is some help as the Broad-billed is often found in mangrove woodland where the other two species rarely venture. However all three can be found in paperbark woodland and then identification becomes tricky.
When seen closely, the Broad-billed Flycatcher (Myiagra ruficollis) has an obviously very broad bill and calls differently to the other two species. Pairs are often found together and the male Leaden and Satin Flycatcher are basically steel grey above with a lead-grey and satin-blue throat respectively.
This one is a male Broad-bill who was very cooperative and allowed many shots to be taken, the female with worn tail feathers is featured in the workshop.
They are typical flycatcher size (14-16 cm) and catch insects on the wing. They were captured in Townsville Common, a large nature reserve on the northern outskirts of town.

Hello Chris,
Both this and the WS are great shots of the Broad-billed Flycatcher, technically of high standard and taken from fine POV's that show the broad bill bases amongst other things.
I like the pose and composition of this male image.
We missed this species in Queensland but saw the male Leaden.
