Well.. maybe not for the flamingo! I guess this photo helps to convey my avoidance and denial that summer vacation is over. I return to work tomorrow as a teacher. It is always a bittersweet end since I do miss the children. However, I also think this flamingo knows my daughter who regularly hides her head under the pillow when it is time to get up for school.

I hope you enjoy the photo for the comical nature as I realize it is technically flawed :-)

Chilean Flamingo
Phoenicopterus (crimson red winged) ruber (red) chilensis (of Chile)
The Chilean flamingo is a tall, large bodied bird with a long neck and small head. Most flamingos, including this species, have pale pink plumage and bills. This subspecies of flamingo is slightly smaller than the Caribbean flamingo and has gray legs with pink bands at the joints.

Flamingos are not born with their beautiful pink plumage. Their color comes from the carotenoid pigments they consume as part of their diet. Some scientists believe that a flamingo's success in breeding relies on its bright color.

All flamingos feed with their bills upside-down. They tip their head into the water and filter feed, using special hair like adaptations in the top half oftheir bill, to gather the microorganisms that make up their diet.

Hahaha.... My sentiments exactly. I can totally relate to this flamingo's posture, since I have to go back to school today too. Goodbye, summer.

This is superb shot Cathy!
Pose of the bird is great, and his head underwater makes the photo really interesting. Good lighting and details as well.

Cathy, what a pitty the overexposure on the back of the bird.

Anyway, be sure this shot is worthwhile posting.

Unique pose and moment. I like sharpness too, as well as composition.

Nice picture, Cathy.
The POV is unusual but interesting.
Some parts are slightly OE but still anice picture.
Good details and well composed.
Well done.

Hi Cathy! I do not have the time to write a decent comment. I give to you the well deserved smiley.

And the activity of making them, changes both the maker and their destination. "

Hi Cathy. Welllll, it's not _too_ bad technically :) Blown out highlights are probably the worst 'sin',and perhaps the cropping is a little unbalanced (too tight across the top) . . . but what a great pov :) This is such a refreshing change from the cliched view we so often see. Well done.

What a superb Flamingo ! I like its pose with head under water. Composition with soft background is good ! On my screen a part of feathers seems a bit over-exposed, but for me it is not a big problem... Thanks for sharing Cathy.

Hi Cathy,
Other than the OE, this one is great. The head underwater is great because you can still see good detail on it. A unique shot, and I am glad you posted it.
