Insecta: Coleoptera: Coccinellidae (Lady bird beetle)

Resting on a Crown Plant, Asciepiadaceae: Calotropis gigantea from India and Tibet. This is closely related to the common milkweed plant of North America. The blossoms are very similar and the Monarch butterflies are attracted to this large woody plant, just as they are to the deciduous small milkweed variety.

Hello Mike,
A very attractive macro shot of this tiny bloom and it's little hitchhiker. Excellent detail and beautiful natural coloration. I'm not familiar with this particular plant, but your notes describe it very well. I always have a hard time distinguishing Lady Bugs from their close cousins the Asian Beetles, which is what I oraginally thought this was.. Well done!!
