[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Small Pearl-bordered Fritillary (Boloria selene). This is one of the smaller UK Fritillaries, and it favours woodland rides and clearings. The larvae feed on Viola. The adults are on the wing in April and May. In the UK it is uncommon and very localised, but is more common in other areas of Europe. This was the first time I had seen this species, so I was pleased to see dozens of them at the site I visited!
