This is a bird that tends to feed on the ground. This one blends well into the back ground. Like many birds always on the move. Taken hand held from a hide.

Song Thrush ( Turdus philomelos Length 23 cm.

Familiar bird of gardens and grasslands but numbers had declined in recent years. Easily told from Mistle Thrush by its smaller size. More dainty apperance and orange red underwings. Upperparts warm brown with a hint of orange - buff wingbar and pale underparts well marked with dark spots. Its song loud and musical. A widespread resident in Britain and Ireland.

Hi Glen,
Very nice photo of this Song Thrush, great natural colors and very good details!

Hi Nick,

Beautiful bird shot (as always from You). Sharpness is second to none, details are great - a pity the bird and the background have almost the same color tones, so the main subject isn't isolated from the bg so well. This is the typical kind of photo which should be a prize winner on a competition with colored bird and desaturated b/w background, because bg colors are disturbing compositional elements here, although the photographer has done everything well. Very pity this kind of post-procession is forbidden on TN.

Otherwise I like the image, I just told my personal feelings, which is probably not shared by other photographers here. But we're all here to tell our opinions and if possible, helping to the colleagues.

Tfs the image, Nick, best regards from Your Hungarian friend, László

Hello Nick!

Very well captured Song Thrush in typical environment. Bird is well camouflaged but still nicely visible on brown, OOF BG. Hard to spot and capture, but you did great job as always. Sharp, with good colours and details of plumage. Next time I'll send another specie from Turdidae family.

Hello Nick

Great pose and detail here. Great work.

Best wishes

Hi Nick

Lovely picture of this Song Thrush. I tried to get a picture like this because it befriended my robin, but would not come as close to me as the robin. Your photo has been taken with great colour and wonderful detail as always with a nice blurred background.
Great capture and TFS

Una excepción a tus tomas Nicholas debido a que esta vez el ave reposa en el suelo. Naturalidad en los colores de todo el conjunto y muy buena luz.
Saludos: Josep Ignasi.

Hi Nick,

Although this Song Thrush is so well camouflaged he stands out so well from the background. The bird is so sharp with excellent details of his face and feathers. I love the warm and natural colors. The lighting is terrific.

Dear Nicholas!

This picture changes in a pleasant way from what you usually use as a background. I like it very much although the quite vivid background does not really highlight the bird's shape. But it's a very pleasant and impressive demonstration of the capacity of camouflage. Moreover, the bird is very beautiful.

Kind regards

Hello Nick,
I'd forgotten that Songthrushes are resident birds in the UK. Ours migrate south for the winter!
This is a nice sharp capture taken from a great low lateral POV with excellent sharpness and colours, which makes it well seen against an OOF camouflaging BG.
Thanks and kind regards,

Hello Nick,

Hello Nicholas,
I am really behind on my critiquing because of the time factor, but I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy viewing this particular image. The bird is shown with exceptional detail and beautiful camoflauged coloration. Perfectly composed with just the right exposure and great DOF. It reminds me a lot of an Oven Bird.
