Yellow-throated Vine Snake
Oxybelis nemaeus

I traveled up the Mosquito Coast starting from Brus Laguna which would take me to Rio Platano to eventually reach Las Marias my farthest destination on this river even though it continued. After settling in and organizing my gear I departed into both forest and fields looking for anything and everything that moved. I came across many wonderous looking animals but none so oddly shaped as the yellow-throated vine snake. The snake's ability to camouflage into its environment is well adapted as it was a difficult spot as it looks very much like a vine, it also moves very fast through the foliage. The shape of the head is fantastic as it looks so strangly shaped. The shape looks as though it is designed for little error when capturing it's prey which is probably brown anoles since there seemed to be abountiful supply in the location that I found this snake.

Paul :)

Hello Paul,
Very beautiful photo of this snake in an attractive pose. The colours are very well saturated and sharpness is excellent. Good dark contrasting BG. Good choice of POV and composition.

Hi Paul,
I'm not specially fond of snakes but this one is really something.
The exposure of the snake is perfect and the colours are amazing You managed to take a great pose of the snake with the mouth full open, Very good sharpness and the snake is well isolated from the dark BG,
It's up to your normally high standard, mf

Fantastic capture Paul.
This Vine Snake is giving you an exceptional pose, especially with his mouth being open. I hope he wasn't coming at you. Excellent detail, colour and lighting. He's a real beauty.

Absolutely stunning capture, Paul!
This is a first class close-up on this fantastic species that i would really love to see live one day...i should really start saving up for a trip to South America, huh? :)
You DOF and flash balance worked out terrific here and enabled you both impeccable sharpness on the snake and that black BG that i think enhances the feeling of "dark jungle"...if you know what i mean.
Anyway, i just have to congratulate you for such a capture and hope that someday we might even meet (on any continent) and you could show me how to capture them so well :)

Cheers and take care

Hi Paul,
Striking photo [ excuse the pun] taken with absolute precision timing and your correct exposure has brought out the colouration and patterns on the snake very well. Great shot. How venomous is this vine snake ?

Hello Paul,

Hi Paul,
Fascinating shape indeed. And so beautiful colors. Captured with great pose and clear details.
A very dark background enhances the beauty of the snake. Yet not full black might be even beter (i.e. less flash)
Thanks for sharing,

Hi Paul.

I like snakes, this photo is very beautiful, the composition, background and the opened mouth give movement to the image. The details of the scales are perfect.

Olá Paul.

Eu gosto de serpentes, esta foto é muito bonita, a composição, o fundo negro e a boca aberta dão movimento a imagem. Os detalhes das escamas também estão perfeitos.
